Yukari Drift Competition 2009

The annual Yukari Drift Competition 2009 was held in early August. There were 100 entries and 20+ crashes due to heavy rains that were on and off throughout the day. FatDaddy and Chris represented Team Hinga out there. Fatdaddy had some phenomenal runs. I (chris) entered the comp with a snapped sidebrake cable and a halfassed patched up rear axle. The way the course was set up, you had to gank the sidebrake to initiate the slide, once the car was sideways you had to make a beeline for the judges hut, come within a couple of meters from the hut, then track up a little then slide into the small S turn in front of the gallery. WELL, it had just rained HARD and I was watching the other drivers, commenting that they were coming out too fast out of the chute which was causing most of the crashes. So me being the dumb ass that I am, I come full tilt boogey outta the chute, reach for the sidebrake (broke) without thinking and nothing happened. It was too late to correct my mistake, so I just braced myself for the jungle safari that followed. Car wasn't so banged up, just the front bumper snapped in two pieces. I get the car back to the pits and she looked mechanically sound. Then as I reved the motor I noticed a slight knock in the mid RPM range (rod bearing). Drove the rest of the comp with the knock. Since the comp I have been fixing the old girl, I will add a page for her very soon. All in all, the competition was a blast. I had my boy Kaze there to support Daddy. There is NO better feeling that sliding by the gallery and seeing your kid smiling and waving at you, definately a day to remember.
